According to foreign media reports, STMicroelectronics (ST), a highly integrated wired interactive high quality personal video and audio recorder (PVR) on-board box (STB) chip STiH225 significantly reduces the design difficulty and manufacturing cost of on-board box, and simplifies the certification procedures.
ST is also introducing reference designs for new components to simplify the first certification process for new product designs that comply with the cable TV data transfer specification (DOCSIS) and EuroDOCSIS standards.
STiH225 integrates a complete interactive cable box processor and analog/digital interface on a single chip, and combines STV0130 3-way input analog front-end with STV0130 3-way input front-end equipped with an Ethernet physical layer interface and a STV 7141 cable box system single chip of stmicroelectronics. The STi7141 is an on-board box chip that supports high-definition television, 100Mbit/s broadband Internet access (with built-in cable modems), and sophisticated digital video recording capabilities.
In addition to the STi7141 architecture, the STiH225 incorporates dual core processors to maximize on-board box and broadband connectivity. STiH225 is fully compatible with STi7141 software, and users can easily and quickly port the original product design to the new platform, giving full play to various functions of DOCSIS 2.0 standard and Internet protocol V6.
Based on STiH225, only a few components are needed to complete the design of a 3-way input box. The designer is free to choose between three discrete cable TV tuners or one tuner module whose dimensions meet the requirements of a standard network interface module. This feature enables designers to reduce the size and material costs of printed circuit boards, develop competitively priced, compact size interactive machine boxes, and provide high value services to consumers.
STiH225 is compatible with Linux and OS21 operating systems and supports multi-video standard decoding, including MPEG4/ h.264 /VC1, mpeg-2 and SMPTE; Mpeg 2/3 4, Dolby Digital (ac-3), Dolby Digital Plus. The component provides 4 USB interfaces; External hard disk eSATA interface; S-video/YPbPr/HDMI video output port; 3 way bonding interface, the highest data rate is 100Mbps.
