ADI pushes digital PFC controller ADP 1048 with power meter

According to foreign media reports, Analog Devices, Inc., the company recently published the first interlaced with high accurate AC power meter function type digital power factor correction (PFC) controller ─ ─ the ADP 1048.

The staggered (or two-phase) ADP 1048, which is similar to the ADP 1047 single-phase digital PFC controller, USES the traditional continuous conduction mode PFC technology to reduce harmonic distortion. The configuration can be set to a staggered design, reducing the size of the inductor and replacing the AC/DC rectifier, thereby improving the efficiency in a bridged boost mode.

These technologies convert all signals into digital domains and allow parameters to be adjusted and compensated through PMBus compatible interfaces, including precise measurements of input voltage, current, and power. The ADP 1048 is extremely versatile and easy to use, allowing AC /DC designers and system architects to adjust their designs instantly at the system level and optimize efficiency.

Like the ADP 1047 single-phase controller, the ADP 1048 interleave PFC controller can be easily programmed using an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI), enabling customers to design and optimize their systems without the need for complex coding used by other dsp-based components. Specifically designed for high reliability AC /DC power factor correction systems and motor control applications, the ADP 1048 is ideal for communications infrastructure, industrial and instrumentation systems (such as motor control), and high power medical imaging applications.

The ADP 1048 has a power meter accuracy of 3% at full load current and further improvement of 1% can be achieved with custom correction. New digital controllers also provide enhanced transient response through nonlinear control algorithms, programmable inrush current control to reduce startup overstress, immediate programming to maximize efficiency, and extensive error detection and return to improve reliability. The ADP 1048 synchronizes the frequencies to eliminate the "bean-frequency" noise, or switching frequency spread spectrum can be switched on to further improve EMI.

The main features of the ADP 1048 include a staggered function that reduces the size of the inductor and the solution, making it ideal for high-power PFC applications. The optimal harmonic correction is realized by flexible digital control loop PFC. True RMS (True root mean square value) ac metering capability provides high precision power management; GUI programmability improves usability and shortens time to market; PMBus compatibility to achieve standardized system software interface.

ADP 1048 and ADP 1047 digital PFC controller is designed to complement another ADP 1043A digital controller produced by ADI, which is suitable for isolation system, high-speed MOSFET driver and iCouplerR digital isolator. These components enable smart power management for greater energy efficiency and ease of implementation
